Just out of curiosity, when the employment by sector pie chart says that .8% of last year's graduating class went into academia upon graduating (or when the ABA-required disclosure regarding employment outcomes for BU says something similar), what exactly are these academic jobs? I assume they're basically post-docs of some sort or perhaps positions as a research assistant for a prof. While, exactly, would someone want such a job? Serious question. Is the thought that such a job may help one get a permanent teaching/research position at a law school, that is, as a TT or clinical professor?

*Why* would someone want such a job, not *while.*

Or is it rather that these "academic jobs" represented by the pie chart and referred to in ABA documents are typically fallback jobs that graduates take when they fail to get a job they really wanted (say, at a law firm, clerking, in the government, or whatever)? Not trying to be "insulting" here. I'm just trying to know what these academic jobs are and why people would want them.

Blurb at the top of my applicant portal disappeared today, yet my application still says complete — has anyone who has already receive a decision had this happen to them?
