Stats aren’t everything gotta remember that. I mean I’m a perfect example of stats not being everything there’s a ton of factors beyond stats that matter equally if not more
I feel like finance to law is not common
LinskysMom
19:50
that is SO true and schools look for different stuff. someone with way better stats than me got straight rejected from uchicago, which is nuts to me
19:51
I’m philosophy and music to law I think honestly law schools wouldn’t have cared and I shouldn’t have wasted part of my personal statement talking about why I majored in music. I felt like I had to explain my shift but honestly I probably didn’t I doubt they cared
LinskysMom
19:52
ohhh i'm philosophy too! i love that for us. my PS was about doing this program called ethics bowl and listening to people debate disability while i was post-stroke and walking with a cane, and how that made me want to pursue law bc of the communication aspect kinda?
19:54
I think instead of focusing on how I didn’t want a career in music I should have instead really honed in more on what I enjoyed about philosophy and how that extended to my passions in law and desire to make meaningful changes to help society
LinskysMom
19:55
that makes sense to me! and especially for some schools you could discuss the connection between law and philsophy- like, ex., martha nussbaum is a suuuper famous philosopher but also teaches law at uchicago by crossapplying her work to public interest, which is so freaking cool of her
19:58
Yeah hindsight is 20/20. Live and ya learn I suppose oh well. I won’t lie I have plenty of regrets especially how late I applied but I just don’t have the mental health strength or emotional strength to go through another cycle my anxiety hasn’t been this high since high school and at this point I’m just tryna hang in there and keep calm. I need to stop going on Reddit tbh but I’m afraid to miss important info
LinskysMom
19:59
i think my mental health would be worse if i settled for the school i got into rather than R&Ring, but if i have to R&R i am going to be actually spiraling, in a clinically significant way, all year

i just feel like i've been through too much in undergrad to not try again for t14s. literally had a brain injury, a stroke, a family member going to jail, broke up with my almost-fiance, etc. like what the ***
20:04
I mean if you got WL outcomes this year and can get your scores up and apply early next cycle, I’m sure you’ll have way better outcomes. And at the very least, hopefully earlier decisions which may help. All it takes is one A
LinskysMom
20:06
that's true. my mom said if i don't get any other As this time around, she'll take me to uchicago so we can ask what it would take for me to essentially guarantee my acceptance next cycle. it's just humiliating to have to reapply and i'm running out of ability to keep trying
20:08
I don’t think it’s humiliating at all. It isn’t a reflection on you it’s just been an EXTREMELY unique year
LinskysMom
20:09
i feel like that's not how other people will see it though
Ijustwannagetinman
20:17
My advice is CALL YOUR ADMISSIONS OFFICE
Ijustwannagetinman
20:17
I only got this interview bc I was so persistent
A lot of people reapply for so many reasons, your feelings are totally valid but you should not humiliated!
20:17
Respectfully, fuck other people. Your mom already sounds supportive and frankly you’re going to law school for YOU not them. If they see it as anything bad prove them wrong next year. What response can they have if you get into a T14 next cycle
^^^^
20:17
The only opinions that matter will understand and support you
LinskysMom

@Ijustwannagetinman: what admissions office?? like for the schools i got WL at?
i considered reapplying but i thin at this point it wouldnt make sense for me and i dont wanna go through another cycle. its your education, your life, you r money and career so try to shut out the noise coming from ohers or the nerves of what others will say
LinskysMom
20:18
@TruthTheX: my mom is amazing. she was homeless as a kid and then grew up to send 4 kids to undergrad. i just want to get in somewhere crazy good and make her proud :(
ColdPureLacroix
20:19
@LinskysMom: you've already made her proud <3
LinskysMom
20:19
@ColdPureLacroix: that's what she says too :/ <3\
Ijustwannagetinman
20:21
@LinskysMom: yes!
LinskysMom
20:21
@Ijustwannagetinman: maybe i will?? i would REALLY love to get off the uchicago waitlist. if i were to call, what would i say / how would i make it appropriate and respectful?
Ijustwannagetinman
