good question

Ideal reader is someone you're friendly with (but not your best friend) who has serious writing chops

@PunishedGrumpyFoamyRock: my mom told me it was bad, wouldn't say why, then refused to read it again haha
jb2028
15:48
They can be objective about your materials, and they can root out bad writing because they do that every day
15:48
I'll jump in with a defense of Spivey/consulting in general: They really helped with interview prep. They were able to give actionable feedback on what kinds of schools provide softball vs tougher interviews, which was helpful to me to interview prep. But I acknowledge that the price point (3k) is too high for a lot of people, and it excerbates inequality in the profession.
15:49
i didn't have anyone read or review any of my docs because i just felt so insecure of people knowing details of my life
15:49
but i think interview prep is really good and worthwhile
I don’t care who knows what if it means I go to a good law school
15:49
I think if someone had told me in September that they didn't like my PS from a consultant I'd be having a different cycle
15:49
The world is regressive we just only choose to care about it in certain places

15:49
what the fuck
GullibleTurtle
15:50
Penn didn't even email me
jb2028

e.g. I shared my PS with a friend who was on the masthead for our college paper, and he immediately pointed out 5-10 examples of weak writing. I'll buy him a case of beer sometime.
15:50
well justified but i don't care for rank as much
GullibleTurtle
15:50
just checked my status and it says WL

15:50
i was so excited that i missed the wave now I'm heartbroken
jb2028
15:50
My parents or best friends would not have been objective enough or had the writing background
15:50
sometimes schools don't email with the status until a day later
15:50
@GullibleTurtle: they will send you an email at 3 AM tonight. That's when mine came in like December
BarryZuckercornEsq
15:50
I mean interview prep can mostly be done by a Google search. Like it's widely known that Cornell throws oddball current events questions at you. GULC's group interview questions are the exact same as last cycle's
jb2028
15:50
Yeah Penn sent a bunch of 3 AM emails in my waitlist wave
jaydee2bee
15:50
7sage has a compilation of all interview q's and what to expect (for free)
GullibleTurtle
15:50
this has been a horrible, horrible strecth. since Friday, wl'd at Penn and NW, R'd at chi
OptimisticPessimist24
15:51
are consultants really more qualified than having a peer read your essays?
Interview prep also really depends on the person. I tend to be good at interviewing but also I didn’t get any so that didn’t matter.
GullibleTurtle
15:51
i just want ONE more t14 A to negotiate w berk
15:51
yeah but i think it's more so knowing what way to present yourself, i rely on personality for interviews but that doesn't slide in a lot of spaces
15:51
I shouldve applied to Harvard
15:51
im a good interviewer but ive rehearsed my why law and why now probably a collective 5-6 hours
