I got waitlisted today after waiting 15 weeks for a response. I don’t really understand since my stats and resume are good. I applied to Stetson too (also private school) which has a lower acceptance rate than UM and got in with basically a full ride there. I’m honestly so confused and pretty hurt tbh considering I waited so long and this was my number one choice.
You definitely have good reason to be upset. If you are able/willing to retake and get a 161+ then you'd be an auto admit. They're trying to revive their rankings and are clearly being extra selective with anything that isn't at least at or above their median LSAT. Regardless, congrats on your offer from Stetson as well as your admission into FIU. You have plenty to be proud of. Best of luck!
If you’ve received an admissions decision, around what time did you get an email?
@LegislativeCounselHopeful I had a 170/3.27 and got waitlisted too. So it's clearly not just LSAT scores they are looking for.
Anybody have success negotiating scholarships?

@AwesomeTroubledWallaby: got my A at 7:55am
@LegalBlondie: EST?! Certified bananas

@AwesomeTroubledWallaby: Whoops. It was 8:55est oops
Highly considering between FIU law and UM law. Cost of living will be the same but not sure which one will be best in terms of opportunities. I do know FIU has a smaller class size so therefore it is best to shine and get the better opportunities. Also not planning to go into big law which I know UM is better for contacts. Any thoughts?
i think just in general a lot of hiring employers look at name recognition in any case, Umiami is more well-known @didacticsixmongrel
@WideMouthedFrog: Would depend on your app. You're a Tenn. resident so they could be yield protecting unless it was blatantly clear in your application and personal interactions with the school that Miami is a top choice for you. They want to be careful about admitting people they know won't actually attend. For example, if you answer the question that lists to them all the schools you applied to, then they can determine if you're likely to get a better offer at one of the other schools and not attend theirs. Especially so if one of those schools is closer to you. All of this to say, there are many reasons why a school will waitlist or deny someone who was seemingly a perfect candidate. You also have to consider you submitted your app in Dec. versus Sept. That alone can drastically alter the outcome.
do apps go from under review to complete or is it just poof a decision
Is anyone still waiting for scholarship information? Just saw they said the scholarship decision form is due on April 1st.

@AspiringLackadaisicalDolphin: i'm still waiting!
I’m still waiting too
I had an informal "scholarship interview" a few weeks ago after I inquired and the guy kind of instilled hope by saying I was definitely being considered and to hang tight but the scholarship decision deadline of april 1st makes me think they've distributed everything they have already.
ditto^
anyone else's status checker not working?
17:05
@AspiringLackadaisicalDolphin: On the admitted students group the head of recruitment said that if you have gotten a scholarship already then the deadline to accept it is April 1. He said they are trying to do most by April 15. He also said that if you do now have a scholly offer rn that they will continue to come after April 15 (seat deposit day)
14:12
Does miami update their lawhub status checker? it just is blank for me since I applied
@hankypoo22: you’ll have to click “view details” to see updates/movement
16:22
thank you
miami called me to say basically "idk" about scholarship consideration
and to continue following up with them regarding my consideration if I don't hear back by april 15
11:21
@latina-elle-woods: They called you, or did you call them?
i emailed the woman I had my PI scholly interview with and got ghosted lmao tf are they doing over there in Miami
has anyone heard of anyone getting off hold
It seems like they are still sending schollys out but it's mostly to kids at/above 75% medians so far. I emailed again today, but it seems like calling is more effective- I just don't want to be annoying. I guess they pushed the date to hear back to April 15.
does anyone know when waitlist might hear back
18:45
Earliest to hear back is after the first deposit of Apr 15. It’ll likely slowly roll out through the deposits.
