chag how we doing, any news

naur
What are my chances of getting off a waitlist if my stats are in the bottom 25th percentile but I sent a good LOCI, addendum, video portfolio, and letter of rec from school's alumni who knows me well? Just tryna get a feel about how much stats matter when you're on the waitlist or whether it's based on who is guaranteed to fill the spot.

never zero, but the odds are always against you on the WL

15:07
@Seagulleagle10: Really low. Basically treat it as a soft R and if you get an A its a pleasant surprise
SuaveCrouton
15:08
Also depends on schools, some have more WL movement than others and some (like GULC or Vandy) will have gigantic waitlists where a majority of the people on it have no chance of getting an A
@SuaveCrouton: it's vandy haha but also ik the waitlist is huge so I'm just gonna stay hopeful but know it's probably not gonna happen but it's my top school so hurts like heck.
SuaveCrouton
15:09
@Seagulleagle10: I'm waitlisted there as well with a 162 and 3.0 and I know I have basically 0 chance of getting off it
Do you know if there is a reason why they choose to have such a large waitlist?
think i will find a more substantive answer on reddit, but is there a real functional difference between chances at clerking coming from UVA v Columbia? I know the odds are tough either way, but i'd really like the option to do so if i perform well in class...

its to psychologically torture people
seagull i will pray for u homie but its looking bleak
SuaveCrouton
15:12
@Seagulleagle10: I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out what benefit they get from waitlisting practically everyone
SuaveCrouton
15:12
I think the only people that got Vandy R's had some serious C&F issues or something
it's just a soft rejection in a lot of cases
@DaBurgHamblerer: could you compare what type of clerking they do, like appelate vs lower court to see difference between teh schools
they didn't hate you but didn't like you enough to give a spot
yeah I haven't been able to figure out why they do it either but oh well best of luck to whoever manages to get off ik there are a lot of qualified candidates
SuaveCrouton
15:14
Yeah but you'd think they'd give people way below both medians the boot, instead they just waitlist us too.
@GloveDontSplitUMustAcquit: appreciate the prayers homie haha
a good idea, but not sure that info is necessarily wholly available (i.e. anything i find is likely to be largely incomplete)
add to that the noise surrounding NY fed judges' clerk hiring practices (usually have to have worked first, which distorts the data massively) and it's very hard to compare
