I use to work for a pretty fancy family doctor and he said his biggest parenting tip was keeping your kids away from the internet and social media until they’re old enough to use it responsibly. He said it can reallyvfuck with their devolpment

thats a risk I'm willing to take
babybunny
13:11
rich people keep their kids off tech
13:11
But rn… iced coffees with no sugar and a splash of milk, iced shaken espressos with SF vanilla instead of classic, and the veranda blend when it was cold
babybunny
13:11
not having tech-induced brain damage will be a trait of the upper class soon
yea my friends were on the watching people die in car crashes wave by like 7th grade it was bad
valley you know better than anyone about raising your own daughter but I would err on access to things at a later age than peers - I work in the criminal field and we tend to see teens who had access to things later be more curious and take risk talking to strangers than kids given access at a younger age with locked permissions and what not

@KnowledgeableRitzyWasp: especially the part about social media and being responsible on it I mean hell I’m an adult and social media has a profoundly negative impact on my mental health and overall wellbeing. For context I didn’t have Snapchat until I was 16, and didn’t have instagram until last year and Reddit until this past year… and god I hate it sometimes I’m already ready to be done with Reddit after this cycle is over

13:13
i'm talking about attention span issues, not gore videos

13:13
Best gore.com made me the man I am today
13:13
@WhatDoIHaveToLose: Oooh that's interesting. Yeah I mean she'll have access to a phone but no social media stuff until she's old enough to understand how to use it properly.

13:13
Unrestricted internet violence is a formative experience for young men
@SeanStrickland2024: that website completely changed the sleepover game
SeanStrickland2024
13:15
@GloveDontSplitUMustAcquit: lmao cartel and isis were the main card of our nights
😂😂😂😂

13:15
We used to be a proper country now the kids gonna get soft
babybunny
13:16
i mean scrolling through tiktok and constant need for multiple sources of stimulus is breaking kids' brains
babybunny
13:16
they can watch beheading videos but they can they watch ten min of one without getting distracted?
13:16
@ValleyH: honestly and maybe this is just cuz I don’t have much social media stuff but idk if one ever really is old enough to use it in such a way that the pros outweigh most of the cons. Idk maybe I just don’t know enough because part of being so late to the game is I haven’t had much experience with it but it does not bring much value to my life and I’ve only had it for like a year or two I can’t imagine it brings much more to people after many years
13:17
@babybunny: I think you’re entirely right too I feel like I’m gonna have to spend this summer relearning how to properly focus on things like actually
babybunny
13:17
lol it brings me the ability to send pictures of myself looking hot
SeanStrickland2024
13:17
^ why I’m pro internet
babybunny
13:17
@TruthTheX: read some books! watch some movies! do yoga
13:18
@TruthTheX: Yeah for sure and I 100% agree with you. I think I'll give her the facts and explain it all and let her make her own choices. I mean her friends are going to have whatever the social media equivalent for their generation is and so I want her to go into it, if she chooses, fully informed, you know?
SeanStrickland2024
13:18
Tik tok is bad, ban that shit
SeanStrickland2024
13:18
Chinese propaganda apparatus
13:18
I mean I also want to thirst trap people I won’t lie but that’s like the only benefit outta this… except only men noticed or responded so so much for that lmao 😭
13:18
I love a little chinese propaganda as a treat
KnowledgeableRitzyWasp
13:19
@TruthTheX: social media is just people comparing the highlights of their life and making everyone feel big sad because their mundane life never feels as good as the constant highlight reels of the internet
13:20
@ValleyH: yeah I think it’s just hard when people don’t feel confident in themselves so doing a lot of work from the beginning, knowing what’s inevitable, will definitely be beneficial I think I needed that a lot. Like understanding healthy expectations of myself vs others and not being raised to compare myself to everyone would have likely made it far better of an experience
