if you have serious contentions with US imperialism, your bone to pick is with the system (military industrial complex, policymakers, capitalism in general) more than individual servicemembers. the DOD is the largest single employer in the US and the benefits and guaranteed pay make it a pragmatic choice for stability in an increasingly unstable country
