merchant's defense

Read a random definition: stepchild

A quick definition of merchant's defense:

Merchant's Defense: This means that if a store owner thinks someone has taken something from their store without paying for it, they can hold that person until the police come to investigate. The store owner won't get in trouble for doing this as long as they have a good reason to believe the person did something wrong.

A more thorough explanation:

Merchant's defense is a principle that protects store owners from being held liable for detaining a suspected shoplifter if there is probable cause to believe that the person has stolen something from the store. This allows the store owner to hold the suspected shoplifter until law enforcement arrives to investigate the matter.

A store owner notices a customer acting suspiciously, putting items in their bag without paying for them. The store owner approaches the customer and asks to see inside their bag. The customer refuses, and the store owner detains them until the police arrive. If the police find stolen items in the customer's bag, the store owner is protected by merchant's defense.

Another example could be a store owner who sees a customer conceal an item in their pocket and leave the store without paying. The store owner detains the customer and calls the police. If the police find the stolen item on the customer, the store owner is protected by merchant's defense.

These examples illustrate how merchant's defense allows store owners to protect their merchandise and detain suspected shoplifters without fear of being held liable for false imprisonment or other charges.

I've been out of school for a long time and I'm scared I won't remember how to be a student, or that I'm too used to sleeping full 8-hour nights

I'm hoping so, especially with such a large 1L class
I've never been a study group guy in my whole life. Seems like that's the default in law school, though. Idk it's more than a year away for me so I shouldn't even be thinking about this sort of minutia, but like I wonder if study groups are actually tangibly helpful in law school? I bet that majorly depends on who is in your study group, but then they form at the beginning of the year before anybody knows eachother, and momentum just keeps them going even if they aren't great
Nah, the cliques start forming at asd
First round draft picks
Then later ones are lower draft picks

I haven’t been much of a group study person either in my educational career. If you’re living on campus it won’t be too bad ; I think it mainly becomes an issue for those who live off campus or commute far
