A quick definition of Cour de Cassation:

Cour de Cassation: The highest court in France. It is called the Court of Cassation because it has the power to cancel the decisions made by lower courts.

A more thorough explanation:

Definition: The Cour de Cassation is the highest court in France. Its name comes from its power to cancel (casser) the decisions made by lower courts.

For example, if a person is unhappy with a decision made by a lower court, they can appeal to the Cour de Cassation to review the case and potentially overturn the decision.

The Cour de Cassation plays an important role in ensuring that the law is applied consistently and fairly throughout France. Its decisions set legal precedents that lower courts must follow.
