About UMD Law School

The University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law (Maryland Carey Law), located in downtown Baltimore, was established in 1816 and began regular instruction in 1824. It is the third-oldest law school in the nation, but its innovative programs make it one of the liveliest and most dynamic today. The University of Maryland campus is located within blocks of courthouses, government agencies, restaurants, and entertainment venues. Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is less than 10 miles from the law school building and is accessible by light rail. It is, for many, the preferred airport in the Washington, DC, area. Maryland Carey Law has taken advantage of this location to become an integral part of the Baltimore–Washington legal and business community.
