I plugged your stats into the 7Sage predictor, and literally every school was considered either a "reach" or a "super reach." That's not to say it can't be done, but realistically, you should really aim for 150-155 at minimum, and possibly higher if you don't want to pay sticker (which is typically not advised, esp for lower-ranked schools)

What you did (courage!) is evidence that you are bold and brave and a go-getter, and what he did is evidence that the ND(LS) network is generous and that it stretches far and wide

But as for "pivoting," admissions won't see it as unusual. It might even be the norm to apply without having done explicit law-related coursework or extracurriculars in undergrad

@person4324 definitely do not enroll in law school to then drop out later for a better school. you can transfer after 1L, but really, do your best on the LSAT and then take the best option from there.

@wak87 Chances are, unfortunately, not great with that GPA (unless URM, in which case chances are still not great but definitely less not great). I'd venture you'll need a higher LSAT and possibly some WE (which would give you the benefit of temporal distance from the "low" GPA)

both. I got into a higher ranked school (ranked like 30 spots higher than my original goal), but im waitlisted at where I originally wanted to go to. I think the LSAT score was a separate goal of wanting to beat the test

I feel you on the test thing. I got multiple 180s in practice (and tons of 179s), and even with a 176 (and as an incoming HYS 1L!) I feel annoyed that I didn't, idk, defeat the final boss or whatever

Re schools: I think you need to be really honest with yourself about whether, if you graduate from the school where you're currently matriculating, you will (1) be able to achieve your professional goals, and (2) be happy, broadly speaking

and I think it doesn't help that other people are impressed/pointing to the fact that law school acceptance is a huge accomplishment and im just like fk this test

^ I think this is a good question. It's important to remember that part of being ready for law school is mental. It will be tough. Your classes will be full of equally brilliant students, which means that some brilliant students will get top grades and some brilliant students will get low grades

Personally, I was not mentally ready for the possibility of "failure" (read: being middle of my class or even lower) when I first considered applying. I spent years having my butt handed to me by demeaning jobs that paid little and asked much, and now I'm not scared to "fail" in the same way. But it took time and a lot of work on myself.

I'm not prescribing awful jobs as a fix for perfectionist tendencies---that's just how I made that personal growth happen. How will you?

can someone explain how exactly softs factor in? like how much would a T1 soft boost v a T4? (obv it's not an exact science since they're qualitative but i just want a general idea of how it works)

its not easy to factor in, as it depends on the school and the essays, but generally it is a pretty big boost from t4 to t1 softs, like no acceptances in t14 vs full ride to yale difference depending on stats. especially military softs

^ I'd say that this is true only for applicants with qualifying stats—that is, T1 softs are unlikely to overcome a 2.9/152 when applying to T14s—and that no softs will get you a full ride at Yale, as HSY (except Stanford's Knight-Hennessy) don't offer merit aid
