Brave of them. 👏 Proud I chose UVA instead of Columbia.

@GoodMorningPeeps: Lol ok.
babybunny
19:29
no offense but that’s a weird thing to say. you weren’t taking a moral stance when you chose UVA
Ijustwannagetinman
19:30
@AmazingCicada: Bizarre take.
AmazingCicada
19:30
Actually I chose UVA even though I got a higher scholarship amount from Columbia because of how Columbia treated their students even before yesterday's event.
AmazingCicada
19:31
I'm not going to spend a single cent on an administration that decides to punish their own students for peacefully protesting.
AmazingCicada
19:32
Also, I went to Barnard for my undergrad

@AmazingCicada: Yay another UVA! :) Can't wait to see you on campus
AmazingCicada

@ReasonableSentimentalPorcupine: Yess! :)

19:35
@babybunny: It didn't seem weird at all to me.
babybunny
19:43
i guess I just think you can and should support the protestors without making it about yourself and your righteous choice
Ijustwannagetinman
19:44
I think a lot of this hate against Columbia is super unwarranted anyway.
Ijustwannagetinman
19:47
If you want to engage in civil disobedience, which these protests are (they violate university rules and policies), then you have to accept the consequence. Not to equate the two situatinos, but Rosa Parks was a hero and was arrest-- she knew she was going to be arrested! It was her intent to draw attention to injustice. A lotttt of Ivy League kids with immense priviledge seem to think they are entitled to make a statement without facing any consequence, when in the past, civil rights leaders bravely chose to face the consequences to draw more attention to their cause.
Ijustwannagetinman
19:47
Nowadays everybody wants to be a part of a movement it seems...without any understanding of what kind of self sacrifice it entails I guess
Ijustwannagetinman
19:48
Anyways, I don't support the camping on campus anyway. It makes other students feel unsafe
babybunny
19:48
every time one of these dumbasses comes on here and says you should expect to be punished for civil disobedience I die a little bit inside
Ijustwannagetinman
19:50
You should anticipate being punished for breaking rules and laws, yes.
Ijustwannagetinman
19:50
It shouldn't shock ya

is the lsd law checker based on the lawhub one
20:43
The point of civil disobedience is not so you can say "Ah well, I was arrested for opposing a good and moral policy, that's fair play" lol
20:45
Yes, you probably need to push the envelope enough that it has consequences in order to draw attention and press coverage, doesn't mean you can't criticize arrests in defense of a policy you oppose
KnowledgeableRitzyWasp
20:55
I mean if it is civil disobedience it depends on whether you agree with it. If you think the cause is just then the punishment is by definition unjust. The core of civil disobedience is that the punishment is unjust.
KnowledgeableRitzyWasp
20:55
If you disagree with the cause then you just think they’re assholes breaking the law to inconvenience people
like the SF DA telling people who were stuck on the GG bridge to come forward as they may have been "wrongfully imprisoned"
FranticSpiffySwallow
21:15
I just hate any protest that blocks the road
thats the point tbh
FranticSpiffySwallow
21:16
like set up a tent on some campus cool, but don't stop people from getting to work
Ijustwannagetinman
21:17
Not just work. Blocking roads prevents people from getting to hospitals, from getting to parole hearings, from picking their child up from school... a lot of unintended consequences that can have seriously negative impacts
